Round 6 of the 2026 Time Attack Championship brought the action to the Brands Hatch Indy circuit on 31 August, with Direnza-sponsored MMT Performance and driver Clive Hopwell delivering an impressive day in the Clubman category.
Behind the wheel of the MMT Performance Volkswagen Golf R, Clive demonstrated consistent front-running pace across all three competitive sessions, culminating in a Clubman class victory in the Super Attack finale.
At Direnza, we’re proud to support MMT Performance as they put performance engineering to the test in one of the UK’s most competitive forms of motorsport.
Strong Start in Attack 1 at Brands Hatch
The opening Attack 1 session immediately showed the pace of the MMT Performance Golf R. Clive recorded a 52.148-second lap, placing him third overall and first in the Clubman class. His best lap was just 0.898 seconds behind the fastest overall time of the session.
With the Brands Hatch Indy circuit measuring just 1.21 miles, small margins make a significant difference. Clive’s opening performance put MMT Performance firmly in contention heading into the afternoon.
MMT Performance Continues the Pace in Attack 2
Clive continued his strong form during Attack 2, once again securing first place in Clubman while moving up to second overall.
His best time of 52.212 seconds came on lap seven of 11, producing an average speed of 83.28 mph around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit. He finished only 1.038 seconds behind overall session leader Dean Riley.
The result underlined the consistency of both driver and car, with the MMT Performance Golf R remaining among the fastest entries throughout Round 6.
Clubman Victory in the Super Attack Finale
The final Super Attack session provided the result that mattered most.
Clive produced a 52.265-second lap on lap six, securing second place overall and first place in the Clubman class. His lap was good for an average speed of 83.20 mph, with only Dean Riley’s Classic & Retro Vauxhall VX220 ahead in the overall classification.
Across Attack 1, Attack 2 and Super Attack, Clive therefore finished first in the Clubman category in every competitive classification, while placing third, second and second overall respectively.
Putting Performance to the Test
Time Attack places enormous demands on every aspect of a car. Power, cooling, braking, chassis performance and reliability all need to work together when the objective is extracting every fraction of a second from a lap.
That makes competition an ideal environment for performance-focused businesses such as MMT Performance. The Golf R’s results at Brands Hatch demonstrate what can be achieved through a combination of a capable platform, preparation and committed driving.
For enthusiasts looking to improve their own cars, Direnza offers a growing selection of performance parts covering everything from cooling and induction to exhaust and chassis upgrades.
