Alfa Romeo Championship Pre Season Testing – Oulton Park

The Alfa Romeo Championship, now officially known as the Alfa Romeo & Italian Intermarque Championship, or the ARIIC for short is entering it’s 44th consecutive season in 2025. open to all Italian makes and models including Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati, Lancia and Fiat. Well known for it’s heritage, close racing, varied grids and friendly environment, we are pleased to announce Direnza performanceâ„¢ will be supporting one of our own members of staff during this years championship.

Having undergone a substantial overhaul, including a new wheel and tyre setup, Coilovers, Custom Centre Exit Exhaust System, Re-designed Aero Package, Polycarbonate Windows, Bespoke MSUK Spec Rollcage courtesy of SW Motorsports, Oil Cooler, Alloy Radiator from Direnza Performanceâ„¢ & of course a fresh wrap, because what’s a Racecar without a livery? Jack’s Alfa Romeo 147 was ready to hit the track for the first time in over two years.

The result? Within 5 laps the car was lapping 7 seconds a lap quicker than it’s previous best time at the same circuit back in 2023, under very similar conditions. During the overhaul there has been no development on the engine so power output should be the same, give or take a few HP with the new Catback System. So we can only put the time difference down to improved handling and increased grip levels thanks to the new suspension and tyres. Significant weight reduction and the confidence to push the car harder for longer with it’s new Oil Cooler and Radiator setup!

Unfortunately, two laps into the second stint of the morning Jack lost 4th gear meaning he was denied the chance go any quicker. We continued to lap the circuit to test reliability until midday, clocking around the same times as 2023 despite skipping from 3rd to 5th, a real disadvantage along some of the straights at Oulton. The good news is a close ratio gearbox has already been fitted to the car ahead of it’s first competitive outing at Cadwell Park at the end of May. A circuit that should suit the low weight, low power combination of the 147.
